How Dumb is Dumb?

Um, Newt, Sean, Rush, and all you Republicans doing a song and dance on the hill, I have remarkably obvious news. Inflating your tires to the proper pressure does actually save you quite a bit of gas. And to imply that is all Obama’s energy plan amounts to is incredibly dishonest. Obama’s plan calls for clean coal, natural gas, and alternative energy as well as new drilling. It provides incentives to buy fuel efficient vehicles and for our auto manufacturers to make them. He’s even conceded he would accept some off shore leases if it was part of a comprehensive plan.

The political grandstanding and theater on display by the Republican distraction squad is a sad joke. The Republican Party has held up energy legislation by filibuster threat 10 times over the past year and a half with no indication as to why. No attempt to reach compromise and every effort to make the slim Democratic majority look like the bad guys. Democrats have tried to ensure oil companies export less oil, keeping more here in our country. They’ve asked for a tap into the strategic oil reserve which would have an immediate impact on the price of gas. The Republicans won’t accept a floor vote unless the bill deals solely with giving big oil more of our public land to drill on.

What’s worse, as the Republicans successfully snooker some of the American public, they ignore the fact that their energy policies including de-regulation have us here, right now. Democrats have been arguing for energy independence since the 70’s and now we’re supposed to believe Republicans are all of the sudden concerned about our energy independence! And their only idea is more off shore drilling leases that won’t affect our market place for a number of years!

Every time we brought up increasing mileage standards, Republicans fought it. Every time we tried to invest in alternative energy sources like wind and solar, they fought it. We have two oil men in the White House who encourage consumption while their parrot-like supporters poo poo any attempt at conservation. Like Obama’s suggestion of doing something as small as getting your car tuned up and the tires inflated properly.

I hope the folks who listen and trust these yahoos are paying attention to their obvious hypocrisy and shameless political maneuvering instead of advocating what is best for Joe Sixpack at the pump. To further embarrass themselves they continually thump their chests for war with Iran. How do you think that affects the market these clowns worship at the altar of? This is all they got? The price of gas, they caused through their irresponsible energy policies, and their ridiculous solution for energy independence, more off shore drilling and give aways to big oil. Good luck blaming Democrats. Even Bush refused to get in on the Republican theater by not calling a special session.

The key to this unraveling is the arrogance the right is exhibiting by glomming on to the comment by Barack Obama regarding tire inflation. Rush and Newt and the like probably have no clue that even NASCAR encourages people to inflate their tires to save gas. Joe Sixpack knows. Any schmuck who bothered to read their cars owner’s manual knows this simple, common sense rule. No one can defend this absurd attempt by the right wing talking heads and the Republican’s they swoon over. I say we let the air out of the tires of their cars and see how far these looney toons go from here.
