Clean up our city

In the paper today it's reported, the city council has decided to spend 900,000 dollars to upgrade Lincoln Park in Downtown Greeley. While this is an ambitious undertaking, lets look at the costs. The park measures 4 tenths of a mile around., very pricey considering how much per foot this endeavor will consume. If our city really wanted to do something that would improve the image of Greeley, they would spray wash all the buildings downtown and apply a fresh coat of paint, (hopefully not brown) to the exterior, giving the total downtown a facelift.

I believe in partnership with some business, this could be accomplished at a far reduced price. It's further believed preception is almost 99% of the issue. If we are seen in a different light, more business will flock to Greeley. As we all desire to be on the side that shouts PROGRESSIVE. As far as this author is concerned, by just upgrading the park and leaving the remainder of the buildings bleak, is like putting perfume on a pig. Sure it smells better, but it's still a pig.
